Surrey Food Bank's Gleaning Project
As the Gleaning program kicks of for 2010 we would like to increase awareness in our community and engage homeowners and farmers who grow access amount of fresh, local produce. In 2010, our Gleaning Project will glean trees, fields, etc where their owners have planted that "extra row or two" of local produce. At the Surrey Food Bank, we want to share the abundance with our low-income neighbours!
Please register your tree or garden and get involved with Gleaning this summer! Contact us today by

Why?
Food Security is a topic and theme in many communities in the Lower Mainland and throughout Canada. At the Surrey Food Bank we recognize this need and created the Gleaning Program!
We know there is an abundant supply of produce available within our community in our neighbours backyards and in their gardens. We want to utilize this produce so it doesn't go to waste!
2009 Contributors
Deb Reynolds, Home Grow-In Grocer, donated over 30,000 pounds of fruits from the Okanogan in the summer of 2009. As well, we had over 20 different farmers and residents who supported us throughout the summer, netting over 40,000 pounds of local produce.
In 2009, our program was made possible by Vancity.
