Stuart Lyster

Stuart has been a United Church minister in South Surrey for the last 20 years.  He currently chairs the Board of Directors of the 1,500 member 411 Seniors Centre Society (in downtown Vancouver) as well as chairs the 411 Foundation which owns the building at Homer and Dunsmuir.  He has worked with the Family Selection Committee for Habitat for Humanity (Vancouver affiliate).

Stuart has been involved in poverty-action networks, hospice work, food security, workplace safety, as well as coordinating successful hospital visiting programs. He is trained in human resource issues through the Justice Institute of British Columbia and for ten years was a volunteer business manager and human resources officer for a 30-unit regional organization within the United Church.

Stuart has a successful background in building redevelopment for non-profits. As a community pastor, he has been active in information and referral services to low income families and transients and has advocated for seniors in affordable housing issues in his community. His passion is for coordinating breakfast-based continuing education programs about the rationale for being involved with poverty related issues to begin with.
