Personal
Stories
The Surrey Food Bank feeds real people
every day of the year: newborn babies,
your children's friends, working moms
and single dads, grandparents supporting
young children, seniors taken ill, the
unemployed trying to care for a frail
spouse? These stories will help show the
human side of hunger.
Jen
My name is Jen and I am writing this firstly to commend you for the good job that you do to help those less fortunate.
I myself used the Surrey Food Bank when my daughters were just two and 2-months old. Then I was a young teen mom with two little mouths to feed, and as you have seen and heard more times than you would like to count, or better yet fathom, I could not survive on my income assistance alone. I also could not afford daycare in order to go to work.
I had to go to the food bank 2 times a month to get diapers and food. Some times I even had to call emergency services when I could not get to the food bank because I had no way to get there.
Then I was given a recipe book that ended up helping me save money as well as stretch what food I did have, and at the same time, made delicious meals. I used the recipe book up until a few months ago, only because I lost it in my move to Chilliwack. I enjoyed the one I had and miss it very dearly and I was wondering if I could have you send me a copy of both cookbooks available.
Thank you for being there at a time in my life I didn't think I could survive without you. You surely shed light on a day so dim.
