Each year, the Surrey Food Bank has the opportunity to host and work with various student and youth groups. We love that so many youth are interested in helping us spread awareness about what we do and how we help, to people of all ages in our community.
We thank so many creative, energetic and caring youth in our community including the 2019 HEROS Club from Delview Secondary, the Cloverdale Beaver Scouts, “WE club” from George Greenaway Elementary, and the Youth Transforming Society (YTS).
The YTS is a youth volunteer group whose main goal is to inspire other youth to take a stand and make a difference in their community. On July 6 and 7, 2019, they held their sixth annual food drive for the Surrey Food Bank. This group chooses to do this drive in the summer because know that the number of donations tend to decrease during the late spring and summer months. They have been very successful since starting their food drives in 2014. In 2019 their annual summer food drive in July raised 1624lb of food for neighbours in Surrey and North Delta.
Each of these groups has demonstrated extraordinary initiative, leadership, and community service while volunteering at the Surrey Food Bank, visiting to learn more, hosting drives and fundraisers and advocating for support for their neighbours in need.
And we are delighted to meet groups that are eager to learn more about our organization. Did you know you can plan a Meet the Bank volunteering experience for your group?
Thank you to all of the youth groups who have shown interest in helping neighbours in need through the Surrey Food Bank.
