Brian, 65 Year Old Single Male
"When my wife passed away 2 years ago, I was left with only one income; my old age pension. Together we built a strong life together but never saved enough money for our retirement.
When Beth died, I had just under $10,000 in the bank to survive on. I continued to pay the mortgage, the bills, my car and food. When the money ran out 6 months ago, I was left wondering how I was going to get by on my OAP and how I ended up here; 65, broke and alone.
Coming to the food bank allows me to receive assistance without any assumption of prejudice towards my situation. Beth and I could have planned better, saved more money, sold the house, etc etc...but we didn't and here I am.
The food bank helps me get by; and without them I don't know what I would do."
