Rebecca Ann, 34 Year Old Mom

"I moved to Surrey a few years ago when my husband left and I needed to find affordable housing. I had heard about the food bank through many community resources, but never fully understood what the food bank could do for me and my 10 month old son. One of the hardest things I have ever had to do, was stand in line to receive food assistance...

I am truly on my own. I have no family to help me take care of my son or help me pay my bills. My ex-husband does not pay child support. I work part-time, which barely pays all of my bills. I don't have a car, as I can't afford it. I take the bus everywhere I go.

I am only able to take enough food for my son, as I cannot carry it all home with me. I was fortunate enough to receive a Handy Cart, but with the amount of help I get; I still have a hard time taking everything home.

Without the help of the Surrey Food Bank, my son would not receive proper nutrition. I am able to give him formula, milk and eggs due to the generosity of the food bank."
