Be Part of Something Bigger

At Surrey Food Bank, volunteers are the hands and hearts behind everything we do. Whether you’re sorting food, packing hampers, or welcoming neighbours at the door, your time makes a real difference. This is community in action, and there’s always room for one more.

Who Can Apply

  • You are 16 or older (or volunteering with a parent/guardian)
  • You are not applying for court-ordered hours
  • You are willing to complete a criminal record check
  • You are not a current Surrey Food Bank client

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Surrey Food Bank. We’re grateful for the strong response from our community. Individual volunteer applications are currently closed while we welcome and train our newest volunteers.

Our next application window will be June 1–5. Please check back then to apply.

Our Volunteer Events Team supports fundraising, awareness, and community engagement outside of the food bank. These volunteers help ensure a warm, organized, and professional presence at community festivals, corporate activations, and signature fundraising events.

Off-site events are often the first interaction community members have with Surrey Food Bank. As part of this team, you may support:

  • Event setup and tear-down
  • Guest welcome and engagement
  • Donation station support following clear procedures
  • Wayfinding and visibility
  • Content capture when assigned

No fundraising experience is required. Full training is provided.

Scheduling & Availability

Volunteer Events Team opportunities are typically:

  • Scheduled 4–6 weeks in advance
  • Held mostly on weekends (morning, afternoon, or evening shifts)
  • Posted through Better Impact, where you can sign up based on availability

Our Group Volunteer Team helps complete important behind-the-scenes work that keeps our operations running smoothly. These team-based shifts are perfect for workplaces, schools, community groups, and clubs looking to volunteer together in a meaningful and hands-on way.

What Your Group Will Do

Depending on the needs of the day, group volunteers may support with:

  • Hamper Preparation – Assembling hampers or stocking distribution areas so clients receive the right items.
  • Distributing food – Provide guidance by informing clients about the number of items they are allowed to take from each station, helping ensure the distribution runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Warehouse tasks- Restocking shelves, and keeping shared spaces tidy.
  • Special Projects  – Supporting programs, large donation days, or one time projects that need extra hands.

All training is provided and staff are present throughout the shift. Please note that some lifting (approximately 10–20 lbs) may be required during volunteer activities.
